Metamorphoses

100 metronomes, 12 musicians, and a world premiere

Imagine this: you walk into the hall and the concert has already started. A hundred metronomes are ticking all at once. At first, it’s like a storm of sound, then it gradually gets quieter. And then, one by one, they fall silent.

With Ligeti’s Symphonic Poem A unique concert begins, in which everything is constantly changing. Music from different centuries flows seamlessly into one another, from the Renaissance to Impressionism and from Gesualdo and Debussy to Ligeti.

Light also plays a key role: a specially designed lighting plan connects the various works and allows one musical landscape to gradually transition into the next.

In the midst of this journey, a world premiere by composer-in-residence Amarante Nat will be performed—a piece written especially for HearAndNow and performed by no fewer than twelve festival musicians.
