- Felix Meritis Amsterdam
The Devil’s Staircase (+ dinner)
Maak deze avond compleet met een heerlijk diner in het restaurant van de Felix Meritis. Daarbij zit ook een welkomstdrankje naar keuze én gereserveerde plekken voor het concert.
About the concert:
M.C. Escher’s artwork ‘Ascending and Descending’ depicts an endless staircase. Inspired by this optical illusion, Ligeti composed ‘The Devil’s Staircase.’ A new film is being created specifically for this work by young filmmaker Jiyan Düyü.
In addition to his fascination with mathematical illusions, Bach’s music was an equally significant source of inspiration for Ligeti. This was due to the combination of mathematical precision, musical freedom, and polyphony as a way of thinking—such as the ingenious way in which fugues are composed.
