HearAndNow School Project
The HearAndNow Foundation is committed to making contemporary classical music accessible to young audiences. With a special education program for elementary schools, we let children experience that new music does not have to be difficult or distant, but can be playful, narrative, and surprising.
In 2026, HearAndNow will organize free educational concerts for elementary schools, made possible thanks to support from BUMA Cultuur, among others. With this project, we want to lower the threshold for children who have little exposure to music at home and introduce them to live music in an accessible way.
Music up close
The educational concerts take place at school, in the students' own classroom or a communal space. Professional musicians come to the students and play in small ensembles. This allows children to experience music up close, in a familiar environment. This increases their attention, engagement, and curiosity.
During the concert, the children are introduced to the instruments, listen to music with a story, and actively participate. By clapping and stomping rhythms and making music together with the musicians, they become part of the concert.
Structure of the school project
- Target group: children aged 6–10
- Duration: 30–45 minutes
- Period: 2026
- Cast: three professional musicians
- Location: at school
Preparation for teachers is deliberately limited. Schools receive a short story and a simple audio clip in advance, so that the children can prepare in a playful way. If desired, the musicians can also guide this process during the concert.
Learning to listen together
The school project has been set up as a pilot for a multi-year collaboration with primary schools. HearAndNow wants to work with teachers to explore how music education can be embedded in education in a sustainable and inspiring way. Input from schools, pupils, and parents will be taken into account.
