Metamorphoses
From the Renaissance to Impressionism
During this concert, the theme of ‘Metamorphosis’ (literally: transformation) will be explored across various musical periods, from the Renaissance to Impressionism, and will feature a world premiere by composer-in-residence Amarante Nat. Through a pre-planned lighting design and no breaks between pieces, all the music is interconnected, and each composition “transforms” into the next. This creates a single, grand musical work of art.
As the audience enters the hall, Ligeti’s *Poème Symphonique* is already underway. In this piece, 100 metronomes are presented as musical instruments. Each metronome is wound slightly differently, causing them to stop at different times. What begins as a storm of sound slowly transforms into total silence as the metronomes stop ticking one by one.
