Florian Verweij

Florian Verweij (1997) is praised for his candid and poetic playing, supported by virtuoso technique and refreshing spontaneity. ‘He is a true poet at the piano with an extensive technical arsenal, which he always uses in a deeply musical way; someone with crystal-clear intelligence, sensitivity, and musical understanding,’ said pianist and Liszt specialist Leslie Howard. In 2023, Florian made his debut at the Concertgebouw in front of a sold-out Kleine Zaal, and a year later he was selected for the AVROTROS talent development program VIRTUOOS. In 2024, his debut album was released. Sounds of Paris (Gutman Records), which was praised by the press. ‘Performed with intelligence and a sound brimming with imagination – a performance of undeniable mastery,’ wrote the Spanish classical music magazine Ritmo about the CD featuring piano works by Franck, Fauré, Boulanger, and Roger-Ducasse. Florian regularly performs chamber music with members of Camerata RCO.

In 2023, Florian completed his master's degree with the highest distinction under Naum Grubert at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. In 2020, he also obtained his bachelor's degree with the highest distinction under piano teacher Jan Wijn. Since 2018, he has also been studying in Italy under the guidance of Georgian pianist Eliso Virsaladze.

At a young age, Florian attracted attention at competitions. He won prizes at the Prinses Christina Concours, the Young Pianist Foundation Competition, and the Steinway Piano Competition. In 2024, Florian was nominated for the Grachtenfestival Prize. He won first prize at the International Magnus Piano Competition in Lithuania (2021) and was a finalist at the Ettlingen International Competition for Young Pianists (2018). In recent years, he has been invited to perform in Spain, Lithuania, Georgia, Greece, Canada, and the US.
