Koenraad Spijker, born September 12, 1991 in Amsterdam, developed at an early age
age a passion for music. From the age of six he began playing piano and a few years later
followed the drums, his talent soon noticed. After two years of study with the Argentine jazz pianist
Juan Pablo Dobal he entered the Utrechts Conservatorium, where under the wings of
Hungarian pianist Klára Würtz earned his bachelor of classical piano in 2013 with a
perfect score. In 2017, he completed his master's degree, also with a perfect score. During
this period he immersed himself in jazz piano, composition and especially the music of Aleksandr
Skrjabin, whose harmonies he thoroughly analyzed in his master's thesis. In 2019, he followed
a postmaster's degree in Sofia, Bulgaria, where he further specialized in the work of
Skrjabin and Schubert. In 2020, he participated in the international piano competition ‘Victor
Merzhanow,’ where he won third prize and a special award for the best
performance of Skrjabin's work.
Koenraad is a versatile musician with broad interests ranging from jazz and improvisation
to film music and electronic music. For many years he has been an enthusiastic participant in
various improvisation, film and chamber music festivals, which has given him a solid place
provided in the Dutch musical landscape. His work reflects a deep respect for
the tradition of classical music, combined with an openness to new influences and
collaborations.
In 2019, he founded the Spijkerklassiek chamber music series in Amsterdam, through which he
developed innovative programs and young musicians not only musically, but also
organizational and business coaching. His diversity is also evident in his work with
children's performances centered on classical music, as well as his contributions to
contemporary film projects. Since 2023, he has been musical director at ‘Domeconcerts,’ a
company that brings together classical music and modern film in spectacular
performances in dome theaters throughout the Netherlands.
In 2024, he co-founded ‘Studio Engine Off’ with theater producer Quintijn Relouw.’
Foundation on. This foundation combines classical music and theater with technology, such as
virtual reality (VR). With location theater in heritage buildings and concert halls, they create
immersive experiences that connect past and future. This
multidisciplinary project aims to renew traditional art forms and
accessible to a wide audience.
