For Camiel Jansen, music, storytelling, and presenting ideas on stage have always been second nature.<\/p>\n
After graduating in jazz double bass and composition at Codarts, University of the Arts in Rotterdam, he continued his studies at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen and the Conservatory of Amsterdam, where he completed his training in 2015.<\/p>\n
He remained in Amsterdam and began writing music for orchestras and ensembles. Since then, he has collaborated with Asko|Sch\u00f6nberg, the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Jong Metropole Orchestra, among others. His style is rooted in contemporary music but is strongly influenced by classical music, jazz, and folk.<\/p>\n
Jansen always composes based on a theme, narrative, or story. For example, he wrote a piece about the Dutch benefits scandal, a work about humanity's future journey to Mars (MARS:), a musical narrative about a small mouse in a big world (Small World), and an orchestral work for the NTR Saturday Matinee in collaboration with Ramsey Nasr, about how humans are the only animals that actively try to exterminate themselves.<\/p>\n
In 2023, he received the Rogier van Otterloo Award and in 2022, the Keep an Eye Production Prize.
